Stay on a remote island – in the heart of Lake Vänern
This is where many of our guests choose to stay when joining our tours. Getting here is part of the experience – and we’ll help you plan it.
In the heart of Lake Vänern, far from roads, cities and crowds, lies the island of Lurö – surrounded by open water, silence and untouched nature. Few places in Sweden offer this level of remoteness combined with comfort.
At STF Lurö Gästhärbärge & Krog you can stay in charming cottages or even in a historic lighthouse, right in the middle of the archipelago.
Wake up to the sound of waves, take a morning swim from the rocks, and end the day with a sauna and sunset over Sweden’s largest lake.
We regularly pick up guests here, and Lurö often becomes the natural starting point for exploring the archipelago with us.
What makes this place unique
- Located on an island in the middle of Lake Vänern
- Only accessible by boat – a true off-grid experience
- Sauna, hot tub and swimming directly in the lake
- Hiking trails and untouched nature all around
- Restaurant with locally sourced ingredients on the island
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at Lurö Krog

Meet Your Guide
Hi, I’m Martin, the guide behind Lake Vänern Adventures. For more than 20 years I have lived and worked in Lake Vänern, managing nature reserves, restoring habitats, and exploring the hidden corners of the lake.
My passion is to share this unique landscape with visitors from across Europe — not just by showing beautiful places, but by helping you understand the wildlife, ecology, history, and stories that make Vänern one of Sweden’s most remarkable natural environments.
Whether we’re navigating quiet channels, searching for white-tailed eagles, exploring Djurö National Park, or enjoying a cup of coffee on deck, my goal is to offer an experience that is safe, personal, and truly memorable.
I look forward to welcoming you on board.
Martin
